Technical feasibility study of the Improvement of quality and productivity in Boilermaking through the processing of data on welding parameters for manufacturers of pressure vessels and wind towers (MECASOL).
The project, due to end in March 2019, is analysing the feasibility of applying massive data processing technologies to the manufacture of high added value products (such as pressure vessels and wind towers), evaluating the process signals obtained from new MIG/MAG welding technologies. This project will also be developed in case studies for the improvement of the productivity of manufacturers, making use of the information generated in real time during the welding process, in the most important industrial sector in Asturias, the metal-mechanical sector.
The overall objective is to improve the competitiveness of companies in line with the RIS3 smart specialisation policies for Asturias.
This objective will be carried out through control tests on various types of board and will facilitate decision making on the most productive processes, determine the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats, as well as the resources needed to carry out its implementation, and ultimately its prospects of success and application to the entire metal-mechanical sector. This project will facilitate the preparation of R&D&I projects in the field of the production needs of the partners belonging to the AEI Polo del Acero.
