This action plan is aimed at developing those areas considered strategic in terms of technology within the business R&D&I centre, the purpose of which is to tackle existing challenges in areas such as structural design and the development of advanced processes for the manufacture of tubular steel structures for the wind energy industry, with particular emphasis on offshore wind energy.

To achieve this, a work plan has been drawn up centred on two projects, listed below, each comprising several tasks whose completion will lay the foundations for optimising structural design, the digital transformation of Windar Renovables’ production processes, and the implementation of new, disruptive advanced design criteria:

· Project 1: Research into the advanced design and manufacture of XXL structures for the wind energy sector

· Project 2: Research into advanced manufacturing processes for XXL structures for the wind energy sector

It is anticipated that these lines of work will be developed in collaboration with technology centres and regional engineering and technology service companies, all of which are recognised as regional leaders within the Asturian steel value chain.

By focusing on research areas such as new designs and their characterisation, as well as advanced manufacturing processes, the aim is to continue driving technological progress that will enable the consolidation of a technological and industrial hub within the renewable energy sector.

As a result, the company aims to consolidate a transition in its business model towards a strategic approach based on technology as a driver of growth.

The project forms part of Windar Technology and Innovation’s action plan for the period 2024–2026 and is funded by the Government of the Principality of Asturias through the SEKUENS Agency and the Science, Technology and Innovation Plan (PCTI), as well as by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
