The main objective of this project is to continue the research addressed in the Proof of Concept awards, focusing on the valorisation of waste generated during the manufacturing process of tubular steel structures for the wind energy industry.
Specifically, the purpose is to use the sludge generated during the painting process and the slag from welding as crucial elements in the composition of bituminous mixtures that comply with the standards established in the General Technical Specifications for Road and Bridge Works (PG-3).
To carry out this project, collaboration is planned between the Project Engineering and Sustainable Engineering Research Group of the University of Oviedo (a group with which preliminary research has already been carried out in the Proof of Concept premiums) and the company Alvargonzález, which is specialised in the manufacture of asphalts. This partnership will cover the entire value chain necessary for the development of the proposed technology.
By focusing on a research area such as circularity, it is expected to generate an industrial symbiosis that favours the resilience of both sectors.
The project is part of Windar Technology and Innovation’s action plan for the period 2023-2025, supported and financed by the Government of the Principality of Asturias through the SEKUENS Agency and the Science, Technology and Innovation Plan (PCTI), as well as by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
