The integration of these rules are announced on the World Day for Occupational Safety and Health which is celebrated every April 28.
The nine Life-Saving Rules are among the most effective techniques for preventing fatalities. They have proved effective due to their simplicity, relevance, and practicality. Consequently Windar aligns our safety policy and management system to these rules.
Each of the nine rules highlights a key action to prevent fatal injuries during activities that research has shown to be high-risk. Aimed at individual workers, every rule is geared to a specific task. These are the nine rules:
- Bypassing Safety Controls: Obtain authorisation before overriding or disabling safety controls
- Driving: Follow safe driving rules
- Hot Work: Control flammables and ignition sources
- Safe Mechanical Lifting: Plan lifting operations and control the area
- Working at Height: Protect yourself against a fall when working at height
- Confined Space: Obtain authorisation before entering a confined space
- Energy Isolation: Verify isolation and zero energy before work begins
- Line of Fire: Keep yourself and others out of the line of fire
- Work Authorisation: Work with a valid permit when required
A key benefit of using the rules is standardisation or uniformity in application, having everybody with the same understanding of these simple and clear actions aimed at preventing fatal injuries during higher-risk activities.
Health and safety department recommends that, as far as possible, its factories adopt and implement the Life-Saving Rules. It will be of benefit to members and to the wider industry to use a widely adopted standard for safety, leading to fewer injuries and fewer fatalities and a safer workplace for all.
These rules constitute a further step, which strengthens the company’s health and safety management system. In addition, it aligns with its sustainability strategy on the way to meeting the global goals (SDG 3) of the 2030 Agenda.
