The meeting, promoted by the Training and Employment Section of the Avil\u00e9s Town Council within the framework of the debate “Women and Employment: Job Opportunities”, was held in the Exhibition Pavilion of La Magdalena in Avil\u00e9s on 11 November.<\/p>\n\n
The conference was inaugurated by the Mayoress of Avil\u00e9s, Mariv\u00ed Monteser\u00edn, and was attended by the Councillor for Training and Employment, Juan Carlos Guerrero, as well as several training entities and speakers from the business sector in the region, such as FEMETAL, DXC Technology, Cluster TIC Asturias, CIFP, SEPEDA, among which was Mariola Villar\u00f3n HR Director of Windar renovables.<\/p>\n\n
The initiative also had the collaboration of organisations such as UGT, CCOO, Red Cross, Avil\u00e9s Chamber of Commerce, Cocemfe Asturias, Secretariado Gitano, Fundaci\u00f3n de Trabajadores de la Siderurgia Integral, Acci\u00f3n contra el hambre, Fundaci\u00f3n ONCE Inserta and La Tr\u00e9bede (Espacio de Mujeres).<\/p>\n\n
The current scenario in the metal and technology sectors is traditionally characterised by a predominantly male presence and a still deep gender gap, with an estimated 18% of women professionals in the metal sector and 20% in the technology sector in the region.<\/p>\n\n
For this reason, a number of initiatives are being carried out to attract female talent to these professions, such as the meeting organised by the Avil\u00e9s City Council with the aim of promoting and encouraging efforts to increase the presence of women in these sectors, which are the driving force of the region’s economy.<\/p>\n\n
During the roundtable discussions, the participants debated and reflected on the main causes that have been hindering women’s access to jobs in these sectors and what proposals and projects can be addressed to improve the presence of women, thus contributing to an equal society.<\/p>\n\n
In recent years, the presence of women in the labour market has been increasing, but at a rate that still needs to be increased, which is why we must make progress in this type of initiatives, which demonstrate the commitments between the business and social spheres. With them, we strengthen strategies towards equal opportunities and gender equality, as well as evidence of compliance with the SDGs of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, part of our development strategy.<\/p>\n\n
